Toolbox, Repair Materials and Equipment Upgrades

Get and expand a Toolbox, equip tools by slot and match Scrap Metal or Common Electronic Parts to the right repair or upgrade target.

Evidence: Community Reported · Scope: Update 049 documentation and Demo 049-Rev5-L community instructions · Source review:

Buy the Toolbox and assign tool slots

The Update 049 notes place the Toolbox at Dr. Jackson’s shop after day 14 and confirm that it accepts tools and both labelers. Put a tool in a numbered slot and press the matching key from 1–9 to equip it. Moving the tool changes its shortcut.

Read the current slot count before expanding

Community instructions describe a new Toolbox with 3 slots, expanding to 9 by using one owned Scrap Metal per additional slot. Check the current tooltip and keep repair reserves before consuming material.

Expand to accommodate a tool you use, then verify the new slot. Moving a tool changes its number shortcut. The Toolbox is storage and quick access, not a source of repaired or duplicated tools.

Match materials to a specific target

Use owned material on an owned, compatible target. Read its current state first; direct material upgrades are different from installing a module in a module slot. Except for the explicitly documented patch changes, the detailed interactions below remain community reports.

Check the result after spending a material

Inspect the target's durability, uses, slot count or unlocked option. Check whether the material was consumed and whether the intended statistic changed. Stop when the target no longer accepts that repair or upgrade.

For cage repair, Update 049 specifies 50% of maximum durability, capped by full durability, rather than a fixed point value. The same material can restore a different number of points on a larger cage. Keep the detailed cage and robot-care rules in the animal guide.

If a tool or upgrade does not work

No Toolbox at Jackson? Check the day and the actual shop stock. Wrong tool equipped? Recheck the numbered slot. Material rejected? Check ownership, material grade, target compatibility and whether it is already full or upgraded.

Do not confuse a repairable working machine with a ruined machine described as beyond repair. The reported material interactions are not a promise to restore salvage. Extractor refurbishment may reduce its maximum remaining uses; inspect both counters before repeating.

Buy materials for the next maintenance task

Community reports place Scrap Metal and Common Electronic Parts among a Junker's material offers; actual visits and stock are conditional. Compare the current item and quote with the Wiki, and reserve enough for cage care before optional expansion.

Keep machine power, output clearance and installed modules as separate checks. Adding a repair material does not resolve every stalled production job.
