Winemaking

Inspect BloomBerries, use the corrected water score, ferment a batch and compare aging value with buyer budgets.

Evidence: Community Reported · Scope: Demo guidance with older Beta model; exact builds unspecified · Source review: 2026-10-11

Winemaking uses berries, yeast, water, fermentation and aging in the original game. Start with a small batch; top-tier scoring differs between some Demo and Beta builds.

Inspect ingredients before committing a bottle

After the relevant unlock, farmers and the Retired Winemaker can supply BloomBerries. Use a magnifying glass to check actual size, ripeness and condition.

IngredientCorrected reported score
Small ripe BloomBerry+2 each
Standard ripe BloomBerry+1 each
Unripe or shriveled/overripe berry0
Moldy berry−1
Two berries in the recipeAdditional +1
Yeast / Yeast Bioreactor / Super Yeast+1 once
High-quality / Pure water+1
Basewater0
Ghostwater / Rustwater / Gutterflow−1 / −2 / −3 in the older scoring model

Clean water scores +1; Basewater scores 0. Two berries add a separate +1 bonus. Additional yeast does not repeatedly add points.

Pure and High-quality water have the same listed score, but the in-game manual says Pure cannot ferment. Use High-quality water to avoid that uncertain interaction.

ItemIn-game description
Wine BottleA fancy glass bottle used for fermenting wine. This one has a integrated airlock.
Yeast BioreactorAn infinite source of yeast. Will be returned to inventory when fermentation starts instead of being consumed.
BloomBerryA sweet berry modified for hydroponic growth. While not particularly filling, it's one of few fruits that is accessible in the Lower Levels. Good for making wine.
YeastA versatile yeast culture with countless uses, from leavening bread to brewing. For winemaking, it speeds up fermentation and improves the quality of the brew.
Super YeastA highly potent, all-purpose yeast culture prized across countless crafts. For winemaking, it dramatically speeds up the fermentation process.

Choosing berries for fermentation

Berry quality is the most important factor. One handful is enough for lower-grade wine. Two handfuls are necessary for high-grade wine. Avoid overripe, underripe, or moldy berries. The best berries for winemaking are usually smaller than normal.

Water for fermentation

Water quality affects wine quality. Use High Quality Water or Base Water. Pure Water lacks the minerals needed for fermentation. Lower grades of water will greatly reduce wine quality.

Why use standard yeast

Standard yeast is optional but highly recommended. Without it, wild yeast from the air will ferment the wine instead, producing inconsistent results. Standard yeast also greatly accelerates fermentation.

Starter recipe and build differences

Start with one standard ripe berry, one small ripe berry, ordinary yeast and High-quality water. The score is 1 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 6, including the two-berry bonus. Confirm the product before scaling up.

Some Beta behavior requires two small ripe berries and seven points: 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 7. The six-versus-seven boundary has no exact build mapping. Test a small batch in your save instead of assuming a universal cap.

Reserve can have recipe-specific exceptions, and the six-point cap is not confirmed across builds. Use this older model as a starting estimate, not a guaranteed product calculator.

Fermentation workflow

  1. Prepare a wine bottle with enough capacity; the older recipe uses 750ml of water.
  2. Inspect fruit condition and choose your recipe before adding ingredients.
  3. Read the bottle’s controls, begin fermentation and keep the inputs isolated from sale stock.
  4. Check the resulting product, score/quality and current quote before repeating the batch.
  5. Age only stock you can afford to hold through rent and buyer-budget constraints.
Fermentation setupFermentation time
No yeast4 days
Ordinary yeast / Bioreactor2 days
Super Yeast1 day
Synthetic Yeast2 days in its separate route

Super Yeast can reduce the ordinary two-day fermentation by one day. AgeWell speeds later aging; it does not replace fermentation.

Aging and supply

An older value model is (100 + 3 × aging days) × quality multiplier before rounding and trading effects. Daily value gains are 2.55 / 3 / 3.75 / 4.5 / 5.25 Credits across five saleable bands. Item value is not guaranteed buyer cash.

The Retired Winemaker is reported on Friday after the unlock, with berries, bottles and yeast; a Sunday Supply Runner can offer bottles at a markup. Wild’s referral pool includes a farmer but does not guarantee that seller every day. Compare your stock, power use and buyer budget before letting all wine age. An expensive old bottle can exceed what a customer can afford.

AgeWellAccelerates the aging process of certain items inside. Ages items such as Wine and Cheese by an extra day each cycle.
Empty Beer BottleNot a drop left. To prevent waste, brewers typically offer some kind of "buyback" program for their bottles.

Synthetic Yeast

Synthetic Yeast produces the separate GloomBerry Wine route and can use ordinary tap water. An older model gives base value 44 with contraband effects and no aging. Plan its buyer, evidence and storage separately; it is not interchangeable yeast for Master Vintage.
